If you notice forgetfulness, confusion, or personality changes, it’s important to speak to a primary care provider. You can also access expert resources from:

  • Alzheimer’s Association for warning signs, diagnosis, and care planning.
  • National Institute on Aging (NIA) for trusted information on brain health and dementia research. 


Parkinson’s can impact movement, speech, and daily living. Early support makes a big difference. The Parkinson’s Foundation offers expert guides on treatment, caregiver support, and community resources.


Regular screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, fall risk, and vaccinations (like flu, pneumonia, and shingles) are recommended. Encourage your loved one to stay on top of routine checkups and enlist the support of their primary care provider.

Polypharmacy (taking multiple prescriptions) is a very common issue facing older adults, and can be risky. Create a medication list, use pill organizers, and review prescriptions regularly with their doctor.  


MedlinePlus is an online health information resource for patients and their families and friends. Learn about your prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines. Includes side effects, dosage, special precautions, and more. 


Options may include:

  • Veterans Benefits (through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs) for those who served.
  • Medicare & Medicaid (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) for      health coverage.
  • Local Area Agencies on Aging (Eldercare Locator) for free or low-cost services.


Isolation increases risks of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Encourage regular activities, social groups, or senior center programs. There are multiple options for guidance on maintaining emotional and social health.


National Council on Aging - Offers mental health resources and information

The World Health Organization offers a fact sheet with statistics as well as resources and ways you can help.

The CDC provides an important introduction to connectedness and healthy aging.


The mission of Family Caregiver Alliance is to improve the quality of the life for family caregivers and the people who receive their care. 

Find community and support through The Alzheimer's Association.

The National Alliance for Caregiving is an advocacy organization that offers a newsletter and information on changing trends in caregiving.
